German coach Jürgen Klopp has confirmed discussions with the German Football Association regarding taking over as head coach of the national team, noting that the main remaining obstacle to finalizing the agreement is the issue of timing and his current commitments with the Red Bull group.

Klopp stated: "I have an existing contract with Red Bull, and I always like to honor contracts. But I am interested in having these discussions. There will be intensive discussions that need to take place. The issues we are currently facing are not just about Julian Nagelsmann."

The German coach added that he will also need to speak with his boss at Red Bull, Oliver Mintzlaff, explaining: "Oliver cares a lot about German football. Red Bull needs to exit this situation in an appropriate and organized manner, and it's not simply easy to end the association."

Klopp emphasized that German football is at a pivotal moment, saying: "German football is currently at a turning point. We need to make radical changes now. Whether I end up taking the job or someone else does, it doesn't change the fact that these changes have become necessary."

Klopp's comments come after Julian Nagelsmann announced his departure from coaching the German national team, following a disappointing exit from the 2026 World Cup, amid widespread calls for a comprehensive reform of the German football system.
