Newcastle United is taking steps to bolster its midfield during the summer transfer window, following the imminent sale of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham for a fee of €116 million, prompting the club to look back to the Italian market for a suitable replacement.

According to "Tutto Mercato Web," Davide Frattesi, the Inter midfielder, tops Newcastle's wishlist, especially since he is not considered part of the club's plans for the upcoming season. He has also been linked with a potential move to Nottingham Forest recently.

The report adds that the 26-year-old Frattesi is under contract with Inter Milan until June 2028, but he could be sold for around €30 million.

Nicolò Fagioli, the Fiorentina midfielder, also emerges as another option for Newcastle, having joined Fiorentina from Juventus in 2025 for €16 million plus bonuses. The 25-year-old has experience with 100 appearances in Serie A, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists.

The same source noted that Fagioli and Tonali faced lengthy suspensions in 2023 for breaching betting regulations.
