Ajax Secures Ter Stegen on Loan
German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is set to leave Barcelona after the Catalan club and Ajax reached a preliminary verbal agreement for a one-year loan. According to reports, financial aspects have been fully agreed upon, and Barcelona is awaiting the arrival of official documents to review the deal's details before giving the green light for the goalkeeper to travel to Amsterdam next week to complete his transfer. The loan will include a purchase option to be defined in the final contracts.
Ter Stegen's move to Ajax is nearly confirmed, as the player has agreed to the challenge with the Dutch club. However, the official announcement will be delayed for a few days until he passes a comprehensive medical examination, despite having fully recovered from a back injury and recent surgery on his left hamstring.
The report indicates that Ter Stegen received other offers but chose to join Ajax due to the club's insistence on signing him, as well as the presence of coach Michel, who previously managed him during his loan spell at Girona and instilled confidence in him before a muscle injury cut that experience short.
Ter Stegen's departure, along with Iñaki Peña, will leave Barcelona's goalkeeping position with Juan García as the first-choice keeper and Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny as a backup. The club does not intend to make any new signings in this position, despite previous interest in Real Sociedad's goalkeeper Álex Remiro.
Additionally, the report states that Barcelona will cover a significant portion of Ter Stegen's salary during his loan period, as Ajax cannot afford to pay his full wages. The German goalkeeper's contract with Barcelona runs until 2028, and the club hopes he will have a strong season in the Netherlands, paving the way for a permanent transfer next summer.
