The famous Congolese fan Michel Nkuka Mboladinga, known by the nickname "Lumumba," captured the spotlight once again after making his first appearance at the 2026 World Cup finals during the match between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Colombia on Tuesday evening, in a scene that sparked widespread interaction among fans and media.

Nkuka missed his country's opening match against Portugal due to quarantine measures related to combating the Ebola virus. However, he was eventually able to join the World Cup and support the Democratic Republic of Congo team from the stands.

The Congolese fan gained worldwide fame during the recent Africa Cup of Nations, as he became known for appearing in the guise of the late historical leader of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Patrice Lumumba. He would stand for hours in a statue-like pose, dressed in outfits inspired by the historical figure whose title he bears.

About an hour before the match started, Nkuka appeared in the stands of Akron Stadium wearing a stylish jacket, a red tie, a yellow shirt, and blue trousers, before taking his usual place behind the Democratic Republic of the Congo's team bench.

With the starting whistle, the scene he became famous for in recent years returned, as he stood motionless on an elevated platform with his right arm raised, symbolically embodying the character of Patrice Lumumba, one of the most prominent figures in the Democratic Republic of Congo's independence.

Despite his refusal to make media statements, Nkuka merely smiled and nodded when asked about his feelings after finally reaching the World Cup, clearly indicating his happiness at achieving this long-delayed dream due to circumstances beyond his control.

The famous fan also missed the World Cup qualifying playoff match against Jamaica earlier in the year due to delays in obtaining a travel visa in time, despite traveling between Kenya and Ethiopia to complete the necessary procedures.

Nkuka Mboladinga is considered one of the most prominent fan figures in African football in recent years, having become a supportive icon thanks to his unique way of cheering for his national team. This has earned him a wide following on social media and in various international tournaments.
